John & Jess - John Getting Ready

With the finishing touches ready for the men, we met up with John's Entourage and made our way to the basketball courts.
At first it seemed like they were like John's body guards - soon it was obvious that they were there as entertainment and in case John hurt himself.

I love the "getting ready" part of the wedding day - the air is filled with excitement & anticipation mixed with a little nervousness. I don't even mind getting told to wait or move out of the way since the preparation seems to take longer than expected, especially for the women.

It's good time to see all the little details - the colour of the lipstick, the beautiful hairpins that were carefully chosen to match the stunning dress. And I love seeing everyone around to help (or trying!) to make it all come together in time.

Jillian & Derek - Prairie Portraits

I was a little surprised at how relaxed Jillian and Derek were, despite the wind and rain - I think that's how prairie folk are when dealing with weather you don't like.

But I think it was more than that. They were so happy to be at their own wedding! They had fun with it - and let me have fun with the portraits.

On to the Reception!
Jillian's older brothers led an evening filled with laughs (many at their own expense) and Jillian's family put together a song about the couple that was one of highlights of the night.

I love how Jillian can keep such a straight face doing such funny things...

No shortage of up-and-coming photographers at the wedding!

The evening ended with a very-prairie dance that had all ages on the dance floor!

The Old Farm House

I'm so excited about this image that I have to post it before the others - I just love it. It's giving me shivers.

This old farm house is on Derek's family farm yard south of Swift Current.

Yes, those are pockets in Jillian's dress. Sweet.

And yes, the wind actually made her veil do that.

(btw,there's always lots of wind in the southwest, so it's really only exciting for me after all the times I've tried to fake that movement in BC!)

Jillian & Derek - July 10, 2010

I love that I'm able to travel to Saskatchewan to photograph a wedding every year - sometimes twice!

This summer I was the lucky lady photographing Derek & Jillian in Swift Current. They are high school sweethearts and really, they are SUCH sweethearts. They made my job so easy!

I love this anticipation and excitement (and maybe a few nerves) while they are getting ready for the ceremony, and then the pure joy (and a little relief) when they are officially married!
