and Ella's fam...

first baby, first house...

Ella Cedar

What a cutie!
This was a special session since I have known the parents for a long time, and now they have this exciting, beautiful addition to their lives. Ella made a fashionably late entrance to the world, and has been loved, kissed and photographed ever since.

I love being able to photograph at the home of the family... everyone is relaxed and comfortable with their surroundings... well, little Ella was still a little uncertain.

Here I am!

Okay. Profile Picture.
I've been avoiding posting one. I admit it! It's sometimes hard to find one of me, since I am usually on the other side of the camera.

However, I am happy to share this image since my friend (and former boss) Karen McKinnon captured it. I was her assistant last summer and I often was the "test subject". She is a wonderful and glorious photographer, and I learned a lot... and had a lot of fun!
I still love checking out her blog and website for inspiration...

Thanks Karen!

Fun Family

Since I have already posted a picture of Joanna's family at one of my favourite side streets (look for the yellow & green!), I thought I'd share a few other favourites from that photo session.

It was late last summer that we got together to create some "fun family photos" before Joanna headed south for the winter - to the Caribbean! (lucky!)

You should check out her website - www.joannafinch.com - she'll be back on Vancouver Island later this month.

Cool Couple at the Train Station

This was a very fun and very special session... my brother!!!! wow, my "little" brother is getting married in September... and I'm so excited to have Gillian as my sister-in-law!

They were great sports and let me have total creative control on the session, and withstood a cool March evening in Saskatchewan (a little snow on the ground) - I had so much fun playing. (I think they were having fun too...)

Thanks guys - love ya!

The Big Wind

Big Wind, Big Sky, Big Windmills. These days they dot the prairie landscapes like grain elevators used to. There are wind farms popping up all over the area I grew up in - southwestern Saskatchewan - and these images are from the Pincher Creek area.

I have a love/hate relationship with the wind. I love the warm chinooks in the winter and the cool summer breezes on hot days. I love a big storm that makes you lean hard into the wind to stay upright. Yet the wind can drive me a little crazy - its persistence. AHHHH!!!!

Now turn that negative into the positive - the wind farms. I'm all for "greener"/alternative energy sources, so I'm happy to see more and more windmills. And I'm excited for Becky and her new alternative energy company she's starting in our hometown of Swift Current (somehow that big wind blew her back there).

Side Streets

I love side streets, alleys, the back of buildings, old garages - the places you thought that you have seen, but don't remember really looking there. That's where you can find interesting backgrounds - not the everyday picture, but in an everyday place that you've never seen quite like that before.

I don't remember how I found my little yellow & green garage, but I like it. Here's a glimpse at 2 different sessions from last summer.

Thank you for the Thank you!

There's a little bit of me gets especially proud of my work when I see someone else love it as much as I do.

OK, now maybe that sounds a little arrogant, even if it's not meant to be! I love what I do, and I get especially excited when I am able to create something that I think is fantastic, fun and/or beautiful. And when the people that asked me to create images for them get excited about it, well, now that's exciting!

So thanks to Sarah & Derek (whose wedding was last summer in Saskatchewan) for the thank you! They said they couldn't pick their favourite image for their thank-you card, so they picked 6!

And here's some of my favourites...
